Mike McCorkle and I won the "Trunkslammers" "Member/Member" golf tournament today at our club. It was fantastic. The format was different each six holes. The first six were "best ball," the second six were "best ball individual net" and the last six were "alternate shot" by each player.
In the first six holes, Mike was playing great until he injured his back on the 7th hole and then he really played thru a lot of pain and lack of range of motion the rest of the match. It was such a gutty performance. There were so many exciting moments; it was the most fun day of golf I ever experienced.
Something funny happened the morning after the match (Sunday morning). I got up early and was having coffee with Sandra. Naturally I wanted to talk about the match because "it was the most fun day of golf I ever experienced." I started out explaining the shots on hole 1 and went on to discuss each of our shots for the first hole. By the time I got to the 2nd set of shots on the 2nd hole Sandra began to laugh uncontrollably. "You are not going to tell me each shot by each of you for 18 holes are you?" After I recovered from my initial hurt feelings, I started to laugh too. It was pretty funny.
Sandra, realizing the importance of the story then implored me to tell the story of the match which I did, hole by hole all the way to the end including the action in the club house as the scores were posted. It was so memorable.
In terms of personal high moments, I got a real birdie on 11 for a net eagle that helped the effort and made a few puts but the day really belonged to us a team and particularly to Mike because of his injury. It was a great memorable experience that I won't forget.
